Hi, I'm Steve McGovern and I own and run savvyITsolutions.com. The aim of the site is simple: To help people find the right solution to their software needs. Easier said than done! It involves a huge amount of research, testing, reviewing and writing. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy the work and the challenge but I'm just saying it's no easy task.
I hate blowing my own trumpet but if you are going to trust my reviews then you need to know what experience I have with IT, so here goes:
My Beginning ... I started my IT career as a programmer working for a software company based in New York but working out of their London office. I was promoted to Analyst Programmer within a year and then Program Team Leader the next year. A long-term internal project introduced me to the world of IT support and I moved internally into that field.
Within the next 2 years I was running the entire European IT operation, comprising 50 offices in 32 countries in and around Europe, and was the main point of contact with the American parent company back in New York. I slowly grew my department over the next 3 years and by the time I left had 2 direct reports in the UK and 25 throughout Europe.
During this time I installed networks both in the UK and in Europe, installed and maintained Email, Internet and Intranet systems throughout Europe and performed local and remote rollouts of software and systems.
After leaving, I contracted for 1 year before becoming disillusioned with working for companies that did not provide – in my opinion – adequate service to their clients.
The Next Phase...
At this point I co-founded an IT consultancy company based in London with the hope and intension of providing the level of support and customer care that was lacking from the support companies I had worked for.
Since then I've been recommending software, hardware and services to my clients for over 12 years and with each passing year something has become more and more obvious: There is a need to provide really in-depth reviews of software and services, along with supporting information, to help people choose the products that best fit their needs.
What's In It for Me?
Some of you might wonder why I would bother to spend so much time and effort to provide all this information free of charge to anyone who visits the site. It's a fair question and the answer to that is twofold: Firstly, I enjoy the work and people tell me I'm good at it. Secondly, to earn money - don't worry, I'm not about to ask you for anything - well the occasional comment on the review pages would be nice! No, I earn money via affiliate commissions. Basically some of the products I review will pay me a small commission if you use the links on my web pages to get to their sites and then sign up for their products or services. This does not cost you anything, the commission comes out of their profits and is a way for them to attract more people to their sites.
Now I know some of you will i be thinking: "OK, so this guy's top suggestions are the ones that earn him the most commission". Simply put the answer to that is 'No'. You see, if I only promote the products that earn me the most commission then you are not going to trust me - I wouldn't if I was you - and that is no way to run a business or a web site. I want you to be able to rely on this web site as a source of independent, unbiased advice. Each product I review has to stand or fall on it's own merits, irrespective of whether or not it earns me money. So if you feel that this site has helped you reach a better understanding of what you require in a particular product and the reviews and comparison charts have helped you reach a decision on which product to choose then do me a favor and click on my affiliate link to get to the product's home page when you are ready to buy. The money from these commissions keeps this web site alive and allows me the time to review more products and provide more information.
